The company which originally carried the name Fratelli Prada ("Brothers Prada") was founded in 1913 by Mario Prada. In 1978 Mario's granddaughter Miuccia Prada inherited from the mother the entity on release and sale of products from skin and headed movement of the company to the world of high-class clothes.
During an autumn-winter season of 1989 Miuccia Prada created the first pret-a-porter collection, or ready-to-wear clothes, from Prada. In 1992 as addition to the main Prada line the company provided the Miu Miu collection which represented the line of available clothes for youth audience. In the Miu Miu series in which name Miuccia's pseudonym Prada is ciphered the main emphasis is put on simple colors and not too elaborate styles that in total generates more refined style. In the advertizing campaigns of this series "house photos" in which models of street children are depicted are used. The Miu Miu clothes are always simple and make an impression of classical things of the class "high end". The Miu Miu line was followed by a footwear collection for Prada Sport tennis. In 1993 to accessories of Prada the international award of the American Council of designers of fashion was awarded.
