The Mattel company (Mettel) was founded in the 1945th year in California by spouses Ruth and Elliot Hendlery and Harold "Matt" Metson. The company name was formed of the word Matt and the first two letters of Elliot. First the firm represented a workshop in a garage in which a framework was made for pictures and photos. After works there were many scraps from a tree and plastic, and that they didn't go to waste, Elliot began to make of them doll lodges which began to be sold more successfully than a photoframework. Soon Harold Metson left the company, and Hendlery's spouses encouraged by successful sales of doll furniture decided to concentrate on production of toys.
In the 1945th year it was sold goods for 100 thousand dollars, from them 30 thousand dollars made a net profit. At that time in the market of toys there was no fierce competition yet, besides after the end of war in the USA rapid growth of birth rate began.
